BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhuanet) -- In Group E, Bayern Munich player Xherdan Shaqiri’s hat trick put Switzerland into the second round of the World Cup.
Shaqiri scored a pair of first-half goals and added another in the second to give Switzerland a 3-0 victory over Honduras, a result that put the Swiss in second place in Group E, behind France.
In another game, a tight but goalless draw ensured France the winners of World Cup Group E, but sent Ecuador home. Before the game, France crushed Honduras 3-0, and Switzerland 5-2, topping the group with six points and a six-goal advantage. Ecuador became the first South American country to be eliminated during the group stage.
