BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The 11th day of the World Cup also sees two matches in Group C. Colombia reaches the top spot with a 4-1 win against Japan.
Colombia took the lead after 17 minutes, when striker Jackson Martinez was brought down by center back Yasuyuki Konno. Juan Cuadrado scored the penalty. Japan equalized with the last touch of the first half through Shinji Okazaki’s header. But Martinez drilled in another two goals in the 55th and 82nd minutes. Rodriguez scored in the last minutes of the game. Colombia will now take on Uruguay in the second round. Japan will leave the tournament after finishing bottom of their group.
In the other game in Group C, Greece beat Cote d’ lvoire 2-1. On Tuesday, Greece took the lead just before half-time through substitute Andreas Samaris, who punished Cote d’ lvoire’s Ismael Tiote for a careless pass backward. Substitute Wilfried Bony equalized in the 74th minute, beating goalkeeper Pangiotis Glykos from close range after being set up by Gervinho. And Georgios Samaras’s dramatic injury-time penalty gave Greece a 2-1 win, which sent Ivory Coast crashing out.
