BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- In the day's earlier kick-off Lionel Messi saved Argentina once again as he helped his team narrowly avoid an upset against minnows Iran in Group F.
The Argentines were frustrated throughout the match and despite a number of chances, they failed to make the vital breakthrough until the 91st minute.
Messi stepped up to be the hero once more, scoring with a curling shot from the edge of the box, to win the game 1-0.
The result means the South Americans will progress to the next round who top Group F with 6 points. Iran are left having to win their final match to have any hope of qualifying.
