BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhuanet) -- China has slammed Japan’s current review of the 1993 Kono Statement as an attempt to discredit historical evidence of serious war crimes.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying says no matter what results the review come up with, Japan’s use of wartime sex slaves and other crimes are undeniable facts.
"Forcible conscription of sex slaves is a serious crime against humanity. The Japanese military perpetrated this crime during World War Two against people in Asian countries it had invaded. Solid proof and evidence of such crimes are as unshakable as the mountains. Any attempt to whitewash these crimes are doomed to fail and are contrary to common knowledge. We once again solemnly urge Japan to face and reflect on its history of invasion. It must adhere to its commitments to the international community made in the Kono Statement and appropriately deal with historical issues with concrete deeds, including the great harm done to sex slaves," she said.
