BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium will play host to its first World Cup match on Sunday, as Argentina face Bosnia-Herzegovina. Security is being tightened, and was already visible early on Sunday outside the famed stadium, with riot police standing by.
At least two anti-World Cup protests are expected ahead of kickoff. Security forces are also preparing for possible hooliganism from Argentinian fans, who have something of a reputation for violence. Some 50,000 Argentinians are thought to have travelled to neighboring Brazil to watch their team, who are one of the favourites to win the tournament.
The opening game of the World Cup in Sao Paulo was marred by clashes between riot police and demonstrators. Brazil is deploying around 157,000 police and soldiers to maintain order in the country and at stadiums, throughout the World Cup.
