BEIJING, June 8 (Xinhuanet) -- A series of car bombs have exploded across Iraq’s capital Baghdad, killing at least 52 people. Authorities said all the attacks in Baghdad happened in an one-hour period, and largely focused on Shiite neighbourhoods.
The first attack took place Saturday night in the capital’s western Baiyaa district, killing nine people and wounding 22. Later, seven car bombs in different parts of Baghdad killed at least 41 people and wounded 62. A roadside bomb in western Baghdad also killed two people and wounded six.
Authorities say the attacks have underscored the sectarian violence now striking Iraq, years after the U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein.
