BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on Asian countries to promote unity, cooperation and development of the continent.
Speaking at a banquet he and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted for attendees of the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Xi said that there are several major emerging economies in Asia. He said that the rise of Asia has become an important driving force for world economic development and for the progress of human civilization.
Xi urged Asian countries to cherish opportunities to jointly consolidate and safeguard the momentum of Asian development through unity and cooperation. He said that CICA, as a security forum that gathers the largest number of Asian countries, is helping to reach a new Asian consensus, promote dialogue and strengthen mutual trust and interaction.
Xi said that China’s decision to take over the CICA rotating presidency was based on a desire to safeguard peace. He added that China will host a successful summit that will make contributions to peace, stability and cooperation in Asia.
After the banquet, Chinese artists staged a spectacular show to welcome the guests.
