Li Keqiang: China to promote global sustainable development

BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Also during his visit to Nairobi, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with UN Environment Program executive director, Achim Steiner, and head of the UN Human Settlements Program, Joan Clos.

In the meeting, the Chinese Premier said that, as a member of both UN agencies, China has always been supportive of and cooperated with efforts to better the world’s environment, development, and livelihood. He also noted that the Chinese government is working to construct an ecological civilization. And it is coordinating its economic growth with social and environmental considerations in order to realize sustainable development.

Li added that China’s new type of urbanization is also at a pivotal stage. He said China will continue to boost its green growth, and improve its environmental management, as well as promote South-to-South cooperation on environmental protection and climate change issues. Li Keqiang also said China would look to enhance its cooperation with the two UN bodies, along with its experience-sharing with other countries.
