BEIJING, May 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Ukraine's interim government has condemned Russia's large military presence close to the Ukrainian border.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman says the large-scale military exercise raises concern. He says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has unequivocally pointed to the possibility of sending Russian troops inside Ukrainian territory. Russia has placed tens of thousands of troops near the border with Ukraine.
The country's acting president Oleksandr Turchynov says the threat of a Russian invasion is real, and the Ukrainian army is on full alert. Anti-government activists now control buildings in about a dozen cities in eastern Ukraine. They're demanding broader regional rights, as well as greater ties with or outright secession to Russia.
