Pistorius faces charge of premeditated murder

English.news.cn   2014-03-14 11:31:18

BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhuanet) -- In Pretoria, the second week of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial is continuing. The Paralympian is charged with premeditated murder in the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He claims it was an accident, while the prosecution claims it was intentional.

During day nine of testimony here on Thursday, Pistorius’ lawyer pointed out alleged missteps from the police and also questioned their treatment of evidence in the case.

Pistorius arrived for day nine of proceedings wearing a black suit, white shirt and black tie, and was flanked by security as he entered the court house. Once inside, his lawyer cross-examined a police forensics expert for a second day, challenging his analysis of a bullet-marked toilet door that was removed from the bathroom at Pistorius’ home, where the double-amputee fatally shot Reeva Steenkamp last year. Pistorius said he shot her by mistake, fearing there was an intruder in the house.

The prosecution says he intentionally shot her after an argument. He faces a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years in prison before parole if convicted on the murder charge.
