BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The Ukrainian National Security Council has ordered a full mobilization of the country’s military forces, after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared he had the right to invade his neighbour.
Ukraine’s acting president Oleksandr Turchynov has urged Russia to stop "provocations" in Crimea and pull back its military forces. He says Russian troops are blocking Ukrainian military bases in Crimea and are demanding Ukrainian soldiers lay down their weapons and leave their bases.
Meanwhile, new prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has warned Russia’s actions have put the two countries on the brink of war.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian parliament has also made moves, approving a bill that provides comprehensive support to the country’s military to ensure the integrity of its territory. The parliament is also calling on the United Nations, NATO, and EU to send monitors to Ukraine to observe the situation there.
