BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Saturday marks the first full day of competition. And there are high hopes for Team China. So far, Chinese athletes have competed in team figure skating, women’s moguls and langlauf running.
President Xi Jinping gave the delegation a boost on Friday. He told them Chinese people are following the games closely, and encouraged them to continue making China a strong sports power. And the president attended the opening ceremony at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
IOC President Thomas Bach told Xi Jiping his organization appreciates China’s support for the Olympics. President Xi also had time for an interview with a Russian TV channel. The president spoke about the Sochi Games, China-Russia ties, and China’s comprehensive reform and development.
President Xi Jinping has wrapped up his Sochi visit and left for home. He’s the first Chinese head of state to attend an opening ceremony of a major sports event held overseas.
