BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Frigid temperatures have gripped a wide swath of the US Midwest and Northeast, just as the regions dug out from a deadly snowstorm.
The US National Weather Service says a new round of Arctic air will bring potentially record low temperatures in areas from Montana to Michigan starting this weekend.
The extremely cold air will push eastward and blanket the Northeast by early Tuesday. Blizzard conditions are expected in the Central Plains and Great Lakes regions.
Snow and ice have snarled air travel in recent days. And delays and cancellations continue to cause headaches for travellers. Nearly one thousand flights have been cancelled across the United States and more than 4,200 flights delayed.
The snowstorm has also caused hundreds of road accidents and several deaths in weather-related crashes.
