BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Following the visit to the controversial Yasukuni shrine by Prime Minister Shinzon Abe, Japanese Internal Affairs Minister, Yoshitaka Shindo has become the first cabinet member to visit it in 2014.
He also went there three times last year. The visits have sparked outrage in South East Asia.
On Tuesday, Vietnam expressed its concern about Abe’s visit for the first time. Its Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Luong Thanh Nghi said Vietnam hopes Japan will handle the issue properly in the interest of regional peace, stability, and cooperation.
More than 160 cabinet members visited the controversial war shrine during last year’s autumn festival, compared with the average 50 to 100 members from 2004 to 2012 when Abe wasn’t in power.
