BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- We start News Hour with the success of China’s Chang’e 3 Lunar Mission. The country's first lunar rover and lander have taken photos of each other on the moon's surface. It came a day after the Chang’e-3 made its soft landing, the first in four decades. And just this morning, China announced plans to retrieve moon samples with the Chang'e 5 in 2017.
The spokesman for the State Adminstration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense says the development of the Chang'e 5 is proceeding smoothly. He says the next stage is unmanned sampling and returning, which will include the Chang'e 5 and 6 missions. The spokesman noted the Chang'e-3 mission has achieved seven technological breakthroughs, including the first time soft-landing, and first time long-distance control of a probe on the lunar surface. He says Sunday's photo session marks the complete success of the Chang'e-3's mission.
