BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- China’s leadership has convened the highest level meeting to map out more detailed plans of the country’s urbanization, decided at a key party congress session last month.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang attended the conference. The leaders say urbanization is the road China must take in its modernization drive, and it offers an important way of addressing rural issues. It agreed to gradually allow migrant workers to become more integrated in cities, and fully remove their household restrictions in towns and small cities.
It also says the country will set reasonable conditions for settling in big cities while strictly controlling populations in megacities. The meeting also proposes ways for local governments to tackle fiscal challenges entailing the move toward urbanization.
