History of lunar exploration

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- China is set to begin its historic moon-landing mission on Monday, with the launch of its Chang’e-3 lunar probe.

Preparations at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center have now passed the crucial fuel injection stage, the start of the main launch process. Scientists monitored the injection over several hours, checking the delivery of fuel into the Long March-3B carrier rocket. The checks are designed to ensure the Long March has enough thrust to leave earth’s gravity.

A separate injection of low temperature fuel will also begin 7 hours ahead of launch. The lunar landing will happen around mid-December if everything goes according to plan. It will be the first controlled moon landing by any nation in nearly 40 years.
