BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Premier Li Keqiang says China is ready to explore new fields of cooperation with Uzbekistan and push bilateral relations to a new high. Li made the remarks on Thursday, during a meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov in the capital Tashkent.

Elevating a strategic partnership to a higher level.

Premier Li says Uzbekistan is "a reliable, good friend and partner for China in Central Asia". Li says China is ready to continuously expand new areas of cooperation with Uzbekistan.

Trade volume between the two countries reached over 3 billion US dollars for the first nine months of 2013, an increase of 65 percent year on year.

There’s also been fruitful cooperation on energy, with a major gas pipeline already linking the two countries.

President Xi Jinping was in Uzbekistan earlier this year -- a visit which saw the two countries vowing to expand cooperation in oil, natural gas, uranium exploration and renewable energy.

Li says he now wants to push that energy partnership to a new level. Li also spoke about regional security cooperation, under the umbrella of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The two countries have been working closely on defeating terrorism, separatism and extremism.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov said Li’s visit will further advance the relationship between the two countries. He said bilateral ties are based on a solid foundation, with broad prospects for development.
