Urban-Rural Integration plan to benefit farmers, agricultural production to increase

English.news.cn   2013-11-15 11:16:58

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Land reforms and rural development have been a hot conversation topic recently. Our reporter Liu Yang visited Qingchun village in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province to find out how new policies are benefiting local communities.

For more on the issue, we're joined in the studio by Mr. Zhang Xiaoshan, from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and our current affairs commentator Mr. Einar Tangen. Thank you for joining us.

Q1. Mr. Tangen, the plenum has proposed drastic changes in hopes of narrowing the urban-rural divide, as farmers will be allowed to take a greater part in the economy. One focus is empowering farmers with more property rights. What’s your take on this? How will giving farmers better property rights affect the country’s development path?

Q2. Mr. Zhang, what’s your take on the Urban-Rural Integration plan, and tell us what challenges we can expect as the government implements this policy?

Q3. Mr. Zhang, how is the Urban Rural Integration plan different from typical urbanization?

Q4. Mr. Tangen, some Chinese experts say the policy may affect the sale, ownership and use of rural land. What do you think this policy is signalling?
