Removal of fuel rods delayed by two weeks

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The removal of fuel rods from the Number 4 reactor at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, in Japan, has been postponed by two weeks.

The decision comes after a government-related nuclear safety agency called for an initial test operation. The agency also called on Tokyo Electric Power Company, the plant’s operator, to have the test evaluated by a group of Japanese and overseas experts.

The removal process is considered extremely dangerous and could possibly unleash high levels of radiation. The decommissioning of the plant is expected to take 30 to 40 years.
