BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- A Long March-3B carrier rocket has left Beijing, on its way to the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China to prepare for the upcoming launch of the Chang’e-3 moon probe.
The carrier rocket, which is being moved by train, is scheduled to reach the launch center on Friday. The Long March-3B is currently China’s most powerful carrier rocket. It’s recently undergone a series of improvements ahead of the moon mission. The Chang’e-3 will make a soft landing on the lunar surface, and carry a special moon rover for detailed exploration.
The Chang’e-3 probe has been in Xichang since September the 12th, and all preparations are said to be going smoothly. The probe is set to be launched on its mission to the moon towards the end of the year.
