BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- An Egyptian court has adjourned the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak to Nov. 16th. Mubarak faces charges of inciting violence and murdering protesters during the 2011 unrest against him.
Egypt’s state media report that the retrial was resumed behind closed doors Saturday, before it was adjourned. A former intelligence and national security official took the stand in the hearing. Mubarak was convicted on the charges last year and sentenced to life in prison, but he appealed the ruling and was granted a retrial. A court ordered him placed under house arrest while he awaited the retrial. A hearing scheduled for September had been cancelled.
The 85-year-old former president ruled Egypt for three decades with military support, and has been held since shortly after he was removed from power.
