BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The United Nations and Arab League special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi has described the Syrian crisis as a serious danger, not only for the Syrian people, but the region and the world.
Speaking at a joint news conference in Baghdad, Brahimi said that the international community has been too late in offering help to the Syrian people. He added that there is now a new attempt to solve the Syrian crisis through the Geneva 2 peace conference, which he hoped would take place at the end of November.
Brahimi also urged Iraq to support a peaceful solution by encouraging all parties to make necessary concessions in order to avoid the violence that has plagued the country in recent months.
Brahimi arrived in Baghdad after wrapping up a two-day visit to Cairo. His visit comes as part of his multi-nation tour to make preparations for convening the Geneva II peace conference on Syria. The conference had initially been planned for late May, but was repeatedly postponed over disagreements as to who should attend the peace talks.
