China asks S. Korea for release of detained cruise ship

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- China's National Tourism Administration has asked South Korea to release a detained Chinese luxury cruise ship.

The Henna's operator, Hainan Airline Tourism Holding Company, has sent eight flights to bring back the stranded passengers and staff on the cruise ship.

The ship was detained in Jeju, South Korea, after the ship’s builder, Shagang Shipping asked for a local court order. The two Chinese companies - the ship’s builder and its operator - are embroiled in a legal dispute.

2,300 tourists and staff have been stranded on board for more than 30 hours. The Hainan Tourism Holding Company is working on passenger compensation plans.

Reports suggest the ship may be released as early as Monday.
