BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Buffalos, elephants, leopards, lions and rhinos, these animals are known as Africa's big five. African countries with abundant wildlife are using them as an attraction for tourism. But, as CCTV correspondent Clementine Logan finds out, this has created problems, as more and more tourists come to the continent.
What do buffalos, elephants, leopards, lions and rhinos have in common? Well, they’re all part of Africa’s Big Five. A name coined long ago by big-game hunters for the most difficult and dangerous animals to hunt on foot.
Today, it’s a major marketing tool for countries which boast the Big Five and attracts tens of thousands of eager tourists each year. One of the most popular destinations for a Big Five safari is Kenya’s Maasai Mara, but the effects of this on the wildlife are mixed.
