BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhuanet) -- NBA superstar Kevin Durant, is also in China, with the Oklahoma City forward getting his summer tour underway in Shanghai this weekend. Before going into full training mode ahead of the upcoming season, the Thunder’s leading scorer is promoting participation in outdoor activities among youths on this side of the Pacific.

Making an eagerly awaited appearance on a hot summer evening, Kevin Durant is warmly welcomed by more than two-thousand fans in Shanghai. The three-time NBA scoring champion says he’s determined to improve his fitness level to an even higher degree this offseason, and is using this trip to encourage Chinese youths to follow his example, by participating in more outdoor activities.

Durant also met up with his friend, Li Na, China’s top ranked tennis player, and the superstar combination exhorted the assembled youngsters to devote their summer nights to sports. The pair also played in an all-star basketball game of sorts, after pledging to show the audience nothing but a good time.

"Today’s youth prefer to play games online, rather than doing outdoor activities, so I wish they would come outside at night to join the real world. I believe sports are good for people’s health. You can only do what you like to do when you’re healthy." Li Na said.

After this weekend’s activities in Shanghai, Durant is scheduled to head to Shenyang on Monday, and wrap up his trip with a 48-hour stay in Taipei on Tuesday and Wednesday.
