BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhuanet) -- It has successfully conducted multiple take-offs and landings of the J-15 carrier-based fighter jet.
Another successful landing of the Chinese J-15 jet.
Li Ming, Director of Liaoning Carrier Command Office, said, “After today’s practice, our pilots have fully mastered take-off and landing techniques for the J-15 on the carrier.”
The Chinese J-15, also known as the Flying Shark, is a carrier-based fighter aircraft whose performance is designed to match Russia’s Su-33 and US F-18 jet planes.
It’s taken hard work to reach this level of performance.
Pilots train on an airstrip designed to replicate the Liaoning Carrier.
Tian Wei, team pilot, said, "You see the yellow marks on the runway mark an outline of a carrier. It helps pilots get the right position."
And every J-15 pilot must pass strict drills before they’re allowed on the real thing.
Taking off and landing a fighter jet on a carrier ship takes great skill and involves high risks. China has had to build from limited experience, but has now completed the maneuver more than 2,700 times.
And the Chinese military’s success requires a contribution from everyone. Even small tasks help China’s pilots and military fly higher.
