BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah has submitted his resignation after just 12 days on the job.
A note on Hamdallah’s Facebook page said his decision came after "outside interferences in his powers and duties". It comes a week before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is to meet United States Secretary of State John Kerry, as part of an American bid to revive stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. It was not clear whether Abbas would accept the resignation.
Rami Hamdallah was a university dean before taking office on June 6th. He was picked by the president to replace Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Abbas had frequently clashed with Fayyad, and Hamdallah’s appointment was seen as a bid by Abbas to consolidate power.
