BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhuanet) -- It’s been nearly two weeks since the explosive revelations by former CIA employee Edward Snowden. Outrage and controversy has steadily ramped up since, with more information being disclosed and Snowden going into hiding.
During a routine press conference on Monday afternoon, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying refuted speculation that Snowden was a spy working for China.
"This is absolutely groundless," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.
HK to handle Snowden’s case according to local laws
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying has said the Snowden case will be handled according to local laws. While Snowden’s location remains unclear, the United States is expected to ask Hong Kong to hand him over for a trial.
Edward Snowden, a former CIA employee, leaked top-secret information about sweeping US surveillance programs. He has said he’ll stay in Hong Kong to fight any attempt to extradite him to the United States.
