BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhuanet) -- 15 days in space.... Shenzhou-10 carries out China’s 5th manned spacecraft mission. Its mission marks the first application of the country’s manned space transportating system.
The spaceship is tasked with bringing astronauts and materials to the Tiangong-1 space lab. Shenzhou-10 docked with Tiangong-1 using automatic operations, and is set to test manual docking within a few days’ time.
In the space station, the astronauts will conduct space and technological tests on safeguarding astronauts living in space. The information gleaned during these tests will be used in planning the construction of another space station in the future.
The astronauts are also set to offer lectures to students back on Earth.
Shenzhou-10 will return to Earth once the mission is accomplished, and Tiangong-1 will be moved into long-term operating orbit.
The previous experimental flights of Shenzhou-8 and -9 tested the technologies needed by China to continue with its space exploration.
Shenzhou-10 now opens a new page for China’s manned space industry.
