BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Algerian forces continue to search the site of the hostage crisis for explosives. An Algerian security official says the death toll from the bloody siege has been revised up to 81, 48 of them hostages.
Algerian troops have found bodies of 25 more hostages inside the plant. Many of the bodies were badly disfigured and were hard to identify immediately. In addition, a wounded Romanian who had been evacuated also died.
Algerian Special Forces stormed the facility on Saturday, ending the four-day siege of the remote desert refinery. At that time, the government said that 32 militants and 23 hostages were killed, but stressed that the death toll was likely to rise.
