BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- China’s Foreign Ministry says its naval vessels will be carrying out regular patrols in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands to exert its right of jurisdiction. The spokesman also stressed that the Diaoyu Islands are an inherent part of Chinese territory. Meanwhile, Japan’s cabinet members are on busy diplomatic tours of countries circling China.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is set to start a two-day trip to Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. He’s scheduled to attend a ceremony in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta to mark 40 years of establishing ties. He will then fly to the US. Abe had vowed to strengthen ties with Washington during his election campaign.
