BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Dutch troops and military equipment have arrived in Turkey, in support of NATO operations. Troops and equipment landed at the Incirlik air base on Tuesday afternoon.

The US, Germany and the Netherlands are each deploying 2 batteries of Patriot missiles, to boost Turkey’s air defenses against any spillover from Syria’s civil war. The equipment from Germany is being transported by a civilian ferry, and will take about two weeks to reach Turkey.

At the US air base in Ramstein, western Germany, US soldiers and equipment were being loaded onto planes on Tuesday. An extra 30 US personnel will also be sent to Turkey to provide command-and-control for Patriot batteries. The Patriot systems are expected to become operational later this month.
