BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Special Envoy to the Middle East, Wu Si-ke, has reiterated China’s support for the Palestinian National Authority’s bid, to gain non-member status at the UN.
Wu was speaking at a news briefing after his meeting with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, in Ramallah. He told reporters, China backs the resumption of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations along the two-state principle.
He stressed the importance of the United Nations in helping the two sides reach a solution. Wu also urged Israel to halt settlement building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, so as to create a conductive atmosphere for the resumption of peace talks. Wu will soon travel to New York to discuss the situation with UN officials.
