BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The opposition army has claimed victory over a military helicopter attack, while Syrian authorities have released 378 detainees. The release comes after the downing of the aircraft.
According to an activist group, a military helicopter caught fire and crashed after it was apparently hit during fighting between government forces and rebels in the capital Damascus. The opposition Free Syrian Army claims it shot down the helicopter.
On Monday, Syria’s state-run media confirmed the crash but gave no further details. Later on Monday, Syrian authorities released 378 detainees. The release comes as unverified reports, of army shelling and helicopter attacks on suburbs of the capital Damascus, say at least 62 people have been killed. Eleven of the dead are said to have been killed in the district of Jobar.
