BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao has met with the Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen to discuss the development of all-round cooperation between China and the Southeast Asia nation.
A grand welcoming ceremony, the Chinese President was warmly greeted by the Cambodian King.
During their talks, Hu Jintao showed his respect to the contribution made by the Cambodian Royal family to China-Cambodia relations. Hu also praised the political and economic achievements that have been reached under the leadership of King Sihamoni. The Chinese President expressed the willingness to promote an all-round strategic partnership between the two nations.
For his part, Sihamoni thanked China for its support for Cambodia’s development, saying President Hu’s visit will promote the traditional friendship between the people of the two countries. He also said the Cambodian royal family will play an important role in cooperation with China.
Also on Saturday, Hu Jintao met with the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The two sides agreed to boost the two-way trade volume to 5 billion US dollars by 2017.
Meanwhile, President Hu also made 4 proposals for the development of China-Cambodia relations, calling for more people-to-people exchanges, mutually beneficial cooperation, joint security enforcement and multilateral coordination. As for regional development, the Chinese President said cooperation of Asian countries has entered a key era and China will work together with Cambodia on the way forward in Asia.
The Cambodian Prime Minister said Hu Jintao’s visit will promote mutual trust of the two nations and Cambodia is hoping for more cooperation with China in the fields of trade, agriculture, infrastructure construction and joint security enforcement.
After the meeting, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony where a host of cooperation documents were issued. Earlier on Saturday, Hu Jintao laid a wreath at the Independent Monument in Phnom Penh.
