BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhuanet) -- In Mexico, no deaths have been reported from the Tuesday’s 7.6-magnitude earthquake. That’s despite 10 aftershocks that have shaken the quake region near the border between the southern states of Oaxaca and Guerrero.

Guerrero officials said about 800 homes were damaged and 60 collapsed. In three villages near the quake’s epicenter, schools suspended classes indefinitely. Scattered piles of rubble dotted the town of Igaulapa in Guerrero State on Wednesday.

The quake knocked chunks off the town church and left cracks in its walls. Elsewhere, pieces of roofing tiles lay in the streets near damaged homes. The quake’s epicentre was 320 kilometres south-southeast of Mexico City. Despite the distance, it was felt powerfully in the capital.

On Wednesday, the effect was felt on the morning commute. Damaged roads and rail lines meant long lines for buses and closed train stations. Road crews worked to repair bridges damaged by the quake.
