WELLINGTON, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of travelers staying in New Zealand's commercial accommodation fell in June following rises the previous two months, the government statistics agency announced Tuesday.

"All trend series for guest nights rose in June. However, all seasonally adjusted series fell, following rises in April and May for most series," Statistics New Zealand business indicators manager Neil Kelly said in a statement.

Overall New Zealand guest nights fell 4.4 percent in June, after a rise of 2.3 percent in May, with domestic guest nights down 8.1 percent and international guest nights down 2.3 percent.

However, the trend for international guest nights had been rising for the past eight months, according to the agency's Accommodation Survey report.

Figures released last month showed tourists from China and Japan had driven the number of overseas visitors to New Zealand to a record high in June.

Visitor arrivals numbered 162,100 in June, surpassing the previous June high of 159,500 in 2013, according to Statistics New Zealand.
