WELLINGTON, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Holders of passports of China's Macao Special Administrative Region will no longer need a visa to travel to New Zealand for short visits from next month, New Zealand Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse said Tuesday.
A visa waiver agreement, which recognized growing links between New Zealand and Macao, would create opportunities for business, cultural and social exchanges, Woodhouse said in a statement.
"Macao's growing business and tourism sectors present potential opportunities for New Zealand to develop export markets in food and beverages," he said.
Currently around 240 Macao residents visited New Zealand each year and tourism was expected to grow with the visa waiver in place.
New Zealand nationals already enjoyed visa-free access to Macao with around 14,000 New Zealanders traveling there each year, he said.
