Abu Dhabi taps east Asian markets to promote tourism

DUBAI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- TCA Abu Dhabi, the official tourism promotion agency of the capital emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said on Sunday it will lead a delegation to Japan and the Republic of Korea this week to stimulate visitor demand to the emirate.

The Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA) said the promotional visit will start on June 10 in Tokyo and will last until June 12 in Seoul.

Delegates from Abu Dhabi's state-owned carrier Etihad Airways, Al Mafraq Hotel, Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi, the Park Hyatt Saadiyat Island, Arabian Adventures and the Formula-1 track Yas Marina Circuit will be part of the delegations and stage road shows.

Mubarak Al-Nuaimi, the director for promotions and overseas offices at TCA Abu Dhabi said while Abu Dhabi has seen little growth from either Japan or ROK, the emirate believes there is potential in both markets.

"We have a product which will resonate well with both Japanese and South Korean visitors, which features our exceptional golf offering and an average hotel rate that represents significant value-for-money," said Al-Nuaimi.

Boosting tourism from all continents as source markets is part of the government's strategic plan "Abu Dhabi Vision 2030" aims to reduce the Gulf Arab emirate's dependency from oil income.

In order to attract more leisure tourists, Abu Dhabi has built several entertainment and sports parks such as the Ferrari World theme park or the Formula-1 circuit where the annual grand prix is held every year in November.

Nearly all global hotel brands like Hilton, Radisson SAS or Moevenpick plan to expand their number of hotels in the emirate.

In 2013, Abu Dhabi welcomed 2.8 million tourists. For 2014, the sheikhdom targets 3.1 million guests.
