- FIFA released a statement to clear Russia and Qatar of their controversial winning bid for respectively the 2018 and 2022 World Cup in Nov. 13. However, FIFA president Sepp Blatter refused to release the full report of the investigation, which was questioned by UEFA president Michel Platini, and the attorney of the inquiry Michael Garcia resigned. Someone involved in the inquiry even said he was "under life threat".

- Beijing and Almaty of Kazakhstan are the only two candidates for the 2022 Winter Olympics as four cities withdrew their bid. Oslo of Norway, Stockholm of Sweden, Krakow of Poland and Lviv of Ukraine had withdrawn their bids in recent months.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the Olympic Agenda 2020 which includes 40 proposals at the 127th Session in Monaco in Dec. 8.
