THE HAGUE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- AZ coach Marco van Basten will be temporarily absent due to health problems, the Dutch club declared on Thursday.
According Dutch football magazine Voetbal International, the former Dutch international, whose father died last month, suffers from heart palpitations due to tensions.
"The absence of Marco van Basten lasts unexpectedly longer than first expected," AZ stated on their website. "The coach is struggling with physical discomfort because of personal matters for some time. These symptoms now are that severe that he currently is not able to work."
Van Basten will at least miss the away match against FC Dordrecht on Saturday. His assistants Dennis Haar and Alex Pastoor will replace him until his return.
This summer Van Basten moved from sc Heerenveen to AZ. With his new club he started the eredivisie season with one win and two defeats.
The 49-year-old former Dutch international began his coaching career at the reserves team of Ajax in 2003 and from 2004 he was coach of the Dutch national team for four years, leading 'Oranje' at the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008. After that he was coach at Ajax for the 2008/2009 season and in 2012 he returned as coach of sc Heerenveen.
