HAVANA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen Cubans will compete in the 17th Absolute Pelota World Championships, scheduled from September 12 to 22, in Toluca, Mexico.
According to the digital site "Jit" on Thursday, the island will be represented by Lisandra Lima, Yasmary Medina, Daniela Castillo and Leyanis Darriba in women racquetball and rubber paddle at 30 meters.
As for the male contestants, the Caribbean country sends the young Daniel Alonso, Armando Chappi and Yoan Torreblanca (rubber paddle at 30 meters), accompanied by Darien Povea, Carlos Manuel Rivera and Dariel Leyva in the category of "Hand-pelota" , while Camilo Castillo and Ivan Torres are planned to participate in Xare, added "Jit" .
The Cuban team is completed with Azuan Perez, Rafael Fernandez, Frendy Fernandez y Anderson Jardines, to contend in short bat and "Paleta Cuero" at 36 meters, besides of Edgard Monier and David Montejo in "Jai alai" at the same distance.
Spain, France and Mexico are considered favorites to dominate the event, which brings together some 200 athletes from 12 countries and regions, according to its organizers.
