MADRID, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was purring like a cat that got the cream after watching his side cruise past Sevilla to win the European Supercup 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Sevilla rarely looked like posing a threat to Real Madrid as new signing Tony Kroos dominated in midfield, moving the ball around with the ease of someone who has spent much more than a week training with his new companions, while up front Gareth Bale and double goal-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo again demonstrated their pace and power.
"The team played well considering we have not had much time to prepare it and Kroos always controlled the game," said Ancelotti.
Real Madrid had two debutants on Wednesday: Kroos and James Rodriguez .
"Both of them played very well, they helped the team and had good ideas. They were perfect today, maybe James had a few problems in the first half, but he did very well in the second,"
Last season saw Real Madrid win the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and next week sees them take on Atletico Madrid for the Spanish Supercup: Ancelotti believes this could be the start of a long period of domination by his side.
"I think it could be the start of a cycle as we have a squad of great quality. I have a fantastic group of players, but we will have to work hard in all of the competitions. The new arrivals also strengthen the squad and we all have more confidence and personality after winning last season's Champions League," he commented, adding that the was not going to have, "a first 11. We need to rotate the squad and use everyone."
Finally Ancelotti expressed his contentment with under pressure goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, whose contribution was limited to a pair of routine saves. However, he refused to be drawn as to whether Casillas or new arrival, Keylor Navas would be first choice this season.
"We'll see," said the coach.
