CARDIFF CITY, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to give European champions Real Madrid a 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup here on Tuesday.
The first goal was made by world's top two most expensive players. Cardiff native Gareth Bale collected Ronaldo's crossfield pass just over the halfway line, gallopped forwards and then swung the ball over from about 45 meters before Ronaldo tucked it home from the back post.
The Portuguese made it 2-0 in the 49th minute. A pass from Karim Benzema found Ronaldo bursting into the box. He hammered home a left-footed drive from 15 meters.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti spoke highly of his players after the match.
"The team played very well, especially bearing in mind we didn't have much time to prepare. The game worked out pretty well.
"I think we might be starting a very important cycle. We have a squad of extraordinary quality - I am fortunate to be able to coach an outstanding group of players.
Ronaldo was named Player of the Match and handed the trophy by his coach at Manchester United Alex Ferguson.
He said, "I managed to score and that gave me confidence, and I am going to continue to work to improve my level.
"We realised it would be a complex game, but we played well and created opportunities. We played with intensity, and we were justified winners, which is why we are taking the cup back home."
