MAPUTO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican Minister of Youth and Sports, Fernando Sumbana Jr. welcomed on Thursday in Maputo, Mozambican athletes who performed during the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow in Scotland, encouraging them to bring more medals in the Brazil Olympics.
Given that Mozambican athletes conquered medals of silver and bronze, the Minister urged them to work harder in order to bring more medals from the Olympic Games, to be held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
"The victories you have brought are not the end. For young people, these medals should encourage you to work harder to bring more medals in other international competitions," said the Minister.
"In the coming two years, we have the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, we need to assume a responsible position - first to increase the number of athletes participating and second to bring more medals back home," said Sumbana.
Sumbana recognized that despite the challenges they faced, the athletes achieved some good results, which he believed is the spirit every Mozambican should have so that Mozambique as a whole country can reach its dream.
