TEHRAN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran finished third in Poland basketball tourney held from August 1 to 3, local news agency reported on Monday.
Poland won the title after defeating Iran 83-70 in the Torun Basket Cup on Sunday, Tasnim news agency reported.
Mehmet Becirovic's team defeated Portugal 69-55 and lost to Sweden 58-75 in the competitions. Sweden became runner-up and Portugal came fourth.
"I am happy with this tournament. After the FIFA World Cup 2014, we will have to participate in another big event in Asia," Iran's coach Becirovic said.
"I would like to thank the Polish Basketball Association for inviting us to this event. We spent a great time here. I hope that we will invite the Polish national team for a similar tournament next year in Iran," Becirovic was quoted as saying by Tasnim.
After a short break in the capital Tehran, Iran will head to Slovenia to play the home country, Lithuania and Brazil in another four-nation tournament.
Iran has been drawn against world No. 2 Spain, 2013 Eurobasket winner France, Egypt, Serbia and Brazil in Group A of the FIBA Basketball World Cup from August 30 to September 14 in Spain.
