MADRID, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid's 80-million-euro Colombian signing, James Rodriguez will arrive here on Friday, anxious to prove his worth at a club he admits he has followed for over 10 years.
The top scorer in the recent World Cup finals gave an interview to Colombian radio station, Radio Caracol before departing for his new home in which he says that as soon as he knew the European Champions were interesting in buying him, he had only one thing in mind.
"When I knew Madrid wanted me, I gave everything to go. The issue had been talked about, but it wasn't certain until a month ago. They are a great club and you have to play at a high level and I think I am ready, although also humble at the chance," said the attacking midfielder.
James is already used to playing in Europe. Last season he was with Monaco, but he spent three years in Portugual with Porto, where he says Real Madrid had kept tabs on him.
"Real Madrid always follow young players who stand out. They followed me and when I had an excellent World Cup, that was when they bought me," he said.
The Colombian is the third most expensive signing in Real Madrid's history after Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but insists that doesn't assure him a place in the starting 11.
"I have to wait and to win my place. There are players who have been there for years and you have to respect that," said James, who admitted to a good relationship with Ronaldo, with whom he shares the same agent.
"I have been speaking to him for a while now. He is a great person and a great player. The last time I spoke to him was ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich and he wished me luck for the World Cup."
Finally James said he would like to see Real Madrid sign his fellow countryman and former team-mate at Monaco, Radamel Falcao.
"I am sure he could play for Madrid, but it is not my decision. He has the quality and the attitude, I hope he can come," said James, who expects to be fully match fit in around 10 days.
"When Ancelotti wants me, I will play," he said.
