THE HAGUE, the Netherlands, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Dutch international Daley Blind sustained a ligament sprain in his left knee during the third-place World Cup match against Brazil on Saturday, his club Ajax stated on Monday.
Examination in Amsterdam showed Blind suffered no further damage. The 24-year-old Ajax player got injured after a clash with Oscar. He was carried off the pitch on a stretcher in the 70th minute of the game in Brasilia.
Blind played all seven matches of the Dutch national team in Brazil, as defender or midfielder. Against Brazil he scored his first goal for the Netherlands. The Dutch beat the hosts 3-0 to claim the third spot.
On Sunday the Dutch team arrived at Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Coach Louis van Gaal will move to Manchester United now, with Guus Hiddink taking over in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
