Brazilian press: Shame on 7-1 collapse at World Cup stage

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazilians never had a glim of psychological preparation to witness such a badly loss to Germany (7-1) at the World Cup semifinal stage on Wednesday as news media were desperate to use the terms of "shame" and "disgrace".

Correio Braziliense headlined with "An embarrassment for eternity" while Daily newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo with "MASSACRE!" on its online edition.

Paper edition of Folha de Sao Paulo has a front page with the dark stadium and the scoreboard light up with the final result.

Daily Lance said on its official web the game was the greatest shame in history. The fans in stadium Mineirao finally saluted to opponents with both applause and cries.

Lance also mentioned the traumatic loss to Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup in comparison. "The 'Maracanazo' has become a smaller matter."

Estadio de Minas hid the devastating details of the game behind the front page which warned its readership "Want to even recall what it was like? Turn the page..."
